We are lucky enough to have friends from all over the world visiting us for our special day, though we understand the majority of you will be coming up from London. With that in mind we have detailed here some basic travel information. However, only you will know the best way for you to travel and arrive on time for the celebrations!
If you have local accommodation then we highly suggest travelling up on the Friday night so you can arrive on Saturday afternoon well rested and ready for the day. Details on where to stay can be found on the ‘Accommodation’ page of this website.
Flying to Edinburgh: Flights are available from Stansted, Luton & Gatwick for an average price of £120 return (at time of writing this) and from London City Airport for an average of £217 return. If you are flexible with which airport you fly from and return to, then there are some great deals to be had. Book early to keep costs down.
Please note: Flights to Edinburgh typically leave between 7am and 9am.
Train to Edinburgh: If you are planning to travel by train then you can do so either from London Kings Cross or Euston. Train tickets can generally only be bought 12 weeks in advance and so are not yet on sale, if travelling by train then look to book your tickets by 1st March to find the cheapest fares, which should be between £100-£160 return.
Please note: The journey by train takes between 5hrs10 to 7hrs45, so it’s a very early start if you are planning to travel on the 24th.
Driving: Tibbie Shiels Inn is situated along the A708, (one of the best motorcycling roads in the whole of the UK!) just 17 miles off the A74M. If taking the Western route via the M6, the journey takes around 6.6hrs from London and once you’ve passed Manchester takes in some truly breathtaking scenery. You also have the added benefit of Tebay Services, which is the ONLY family run and independently owned service station in the UK! It boasts a huge range of delicious local and speciality produce, eating there is one of the highlights of the journey for us!
If taking the Eastern route via the A1M then expect journey times to be a little longer as it’s slower paced and can be subject to high traffic at certain points. The Eastern route is lovely though and quite picturesque for the majority of its length.
